CERTIFIED BOOKWORM TURNED AUTHOR
HOW MY AUTHOR JOURNEY STARTED
It all started when…
Lani was born in North London to a Nigerian father and a Nigerian/American mother. Her first memories of life at home were a place full of books. Her father cooking in the kitchen; making her mosas. Her grandfather was a medical doctor in America, and her mother was a student of history. So before she could talk properly, Lani had her head in books. The more she read (including age-inappropriate ones!!), the more she dreamed of writing her own stories. Her early exposure to history piqued her curiosity about history, culture, myths and legends. She can sit down for hours and discuss her take on where the pyramids came from or how the various Orisa’s we have in Nigeria came into being. Unwilling to go into the family business of medicine (blood made her squeamish), she studied Computer Science instead.
Even then, she dreamed of writing, she spent a lot of money on books on writing and attended courses, but she never had the courage to write. Bored one day, she decided to find places online where she could write her stories and gauge the reaction of her readers. That’s how she found Nairaland. Her first book, The Lekki Club, started there.
Buoyed by the response and a serendipitous life-changing event, she locked herself away in December 2018 and released The Lekki Club in March 2019. She has learnt a lot of lessons along the way, which she shares during her speeches at book events. She also gets invited to many lifestyle events where she talks about and helps people understand sex and BDSM.
She has since published four novels, three anthologies and numerous film scripts.
